How to Maintain Silk Pajamas

Since ancient times, silk pajamas has been loved by people for its softness ,hygienism and constant-temperature. Looking at a piece of silk pajama set on the body is very beautiful, but many people don’t know how to clean and maintain it if it is accidentally dirty.

  • Silk should not be soaped:First, because tap water contains calcium and magnesium rods, when it comes to soap, it will become calcium soap or magnesium soap.

the positive charge of silk, soap with negative charges, the two are easy to combine, precipitation attached to the silk surface, there will be gray-white spots, so silk is best rinsed with water or washed with detergent.

  • When silk pajama set and silk clothing is washed, strong rubbing will cause abrasion or “displacement” of silk fibers under the action of magic, stretching and twisting forces, thus causing clothing deformation, losing its original stiffness and shortening its life
  • Silk clothes are not washable for a long time. Salt in sweat can make the surface of light-colored silk clothes show yellow spots.
  • Silk garments must be rinsed clean after washing. When washing silk products, we should choose a good detergent. Because silk is slightly acidic as human skin, it is not suitable to wash it with alkaline detergent or soap. It is better to use a small amount of neutral detergent (such as detergent for washing vegetables and fruits).

After washing, silk fabrics should be soaked in water with a few drops of acetic acid for a few minutes, which can make the color brighter.

Silk clothes should be thoroughly cleaned when they are collected. It’s best to dry-clean them once. It can not only decontaminate, but also protect the material and shape of clothes. At the same time, it can also play the role of insecticide and sterilization. When collecting silk clothes, white silk should be wrapped in blue paper to prevent yellowing.

Bright-coloured silk garments should be wrapped in dark paper to keep their colours intact.Silk clothing is lighter, afraid of extrusion, easy to wrinkle, should be stored alone or placed on the top of the suitcase.

Which fabric will you choose for your nightwear

Happy couple sleeping in a comfortable bed at home

When we sleep, we should be as comfortable as possible. Fabrics for sleepwear and bedding can play a major role in how well we sleep at night. We want to be cool enough so that our bodies can drop off to sleep, but warm enough that we are still comfortable as well. We’ve probably all been told to wear lightweight, loose, breathable fabrics to bed for the most comfortable sleep. We’ve heard: don’t wear polyester fabrics because it prohibits air circulation; do wear cotton because it’s lightweight and breathable.

Do you tend to sweat a lot at night? Or do you easily feel chilled? Choose the best fabrics that cater to your body and environment! Here is a list of some old and new nighttime fabric options.

Cotton

Cotton, a natural, soft fiber grown from the cotton plant, has been used in textiles for a long time, and for good reason. It is soft, lightweight, and breathable, which allows air circulation to your skin. It is extremely common, durable, and easy to wash. For all these reasons, a soft cotton fabric still may be a choice for sleepwear and bedding.

Wool

Wool is the textile made from the natural hair of a sheep, goat, or similar animal. When you see wool, you probably think “warm” and maybe also “itchy.” For many kinds of wool, this is can be true. Wool is an excellent insulator, but the amount of insulation you might want likely depends on your sleeping environment, so choose the weight and weave of your fabric accordingly so you don’t get overheated. Watch out: some wool can be quite itchy, which can irritate the skin at night.

Silk

Ahhh, what sounds nicer than a pair of silk pajamas or nestling into clean silk sheets? You’ll feel like royalty. Silk is a natural protein fiber made from the cocoons of silkworms. It is incredibly soft, strong, and is an excellent thermoregulator, keeping you cool when it is warm and warm when it is cool. All that being said, perspiration can easily weaken and stain silk, and therefore any fabric in contact with the skin (like, say, silk pajamas and silk sheets) should be cleaned regularly. Silk can absorb a lot of moisture, and that means a lot of sweat if you tend to perspire at night. It is also generally recommended that silks be cleaned with dry cleaning methods. Therefore, while certainly luxurious and comfortable.

Linen

Like silk, linen is considered more of a luxury material for sheets and sleepwear . Unlike silk, linen is a natural fiber derived from the flax plant. Linen has been around for centuries, but still remains popular because it is so breathable and cool. If you live in a hot climate, consider linen a great bedding and sleepwear fabric option. High-quality linen is soft, very strong, durable and can last decades, so even though it may have a higher initial price tag, it can be good value. Unfortunately, linen wrinkles easily, so if you mind the wrinkled look on sleepwear and sheets, be ready to get your iron out regularly.

How to wash silk products

While you should always read the care label on your silk items before washing them to check for washing instructions, there are a few golden rules to washing silk that you can follow too.

Here are some of the answers to common questions about machine washing and hand washing silk.

  • Never wash silk with chlorine bleach. It could damage the natural fibres
  • Avoid drying silk in direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure can cause damage or fading
  • Never tumble dry silk – the heat can also cause damage or shrinking
  • Use a mild, non-biological detergent like Persil Silk. A detergent specially designed for the purpose is best for washing silk
  • Always check if the item is colour-fast before washing. Dab an inconspicuous area of the silk with a white, wet cloth to see if any colour runs from the item. If colour sticks to the white cloth, we recommend that you do not hand wash or machine wash your item – take it to a professional dry cleaner instead

Can you wash silk in the washing machine?

If your item’s care label doesn’t feature the ‘dry clean only’ symbol or the ‘hand wash only’ symbol, then it’s okay to use the washing machine to do the job for you!

Here’s how:

  1. Pop your item in the washing machine – we recommend placing any silk items inside a mesh laundry bag or pillowcase to avoid snags or damage caused by the drum.
  2. Select a cool, delicate cycle (do not set the wash temperature to any higher than 30°C).
  3. Choose the shortest spin cycle and add the appropriate dose of a mild detergent, like Persil Silk & Wool.
  4. Dry your item as with the above method.

Ways of improve sleep quality

  • Make Your Bedroom a Sleep Haven. Use this room for only sleep,
  • relaxation, and sex, so you don’t associate it with other niggling distractions, such as work or paying bills. Use blackout curtains to block light from the outdoors, paint the walls a calming blue shade, and invest in a mattress, sheets, and pillows that you find comfortable. Using a white noise machine and keeping the room between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit can also help. In addition: Keep pets off your bed, as they are prime sleep-disrupters.
  • Create a Bedtime Ritual. Relaxation is vital in order to fall asleep faster, so try doing something regularly in the hour before bed that your brain will associate with sleep, such as listening to a calming playlist on your iPod, practicing a few simple yoga poses such as child’s pose or “legs up the wall,” or taking a warm bath (the rise and fall in body temperature preps you to snooze).
  • Limit Tossing and Turning. Staring at the clock when you can’t sleep actually increases the stress hormone known as cortisol in your body, making it tougher to fall asleep. First, try turning your clock away from you. If that doesn’t work, get up after 20 or 30 minutes and do something simple and repetitive (such as folding laundry) or relaxing (such as knitting). And if you’re worried about something, try putting it on paper to get it out of your head, so you can quiet your mind for sleep.
  • Try to use silk beddings.

Tips for folding your fitted sheets

Silk, a natural protein fiber, is luxurious and smooth. Some people think it is difficult to care for silk because it is delicate. In general, with proper care, ilk can keep its beautiful for a long time.

Silk is expensive, thus you should choose the suitable color that go with your overall room decoration when buying silk fitted sheets.

Learning how to fold a fitted sheet is like riding a bicycle: Both tasks can seem overly complicated at first, but once you’ve done them smoothly, they become second nature. If you’ve got riding a bike down pat but still a little help with folding a fitted sheet, FREEDOMSILK is here to provide those figurative training wheels for a little longer.

Follow These Steps

  1. Drape the Fitted Sheet Over Your Hands
With the top two corners inside out and the elastic edge facing you, hold the fitted sheet with one hand in each of the top corners.
  2. Fold the Fitted Sheet in Half and Tuck in the Corners
Fold the fitted sheet in half vertically, flipping the right corner over the left to create a pocket. Turn the bed sheet 180 degrees and create a second pocket up top. (If your folded sheet has gathered sides, tuck them into each other.)
  3. Fold the Fitted Sheet in Half Again
Readjust your hold so there are two corners over your left hand and the other two over your right, with the folded seam at the bottom and the tucked and gathered edge facing you. Fold the sheet in half once more so that all four fitted corners meet, and flip the right set of corners over the left set.
  4. Lay the Folded Sheet on the Bed
With the gathered edges facing up, fold the longer part of the curved edge in toward the center a few inches to create a straight edge. The sheet should now be a rectangle. Fold in half lengthwise, then fold into thirds.

Sleep problems and insomnia

Insomnia can be caused by psychiatric and medical conditions, unhealthy sleep habits, specific substances, and/or certain biological factors.

The sad truth is, most people experience sleeplessness at some point during their lives. But what is the difference between a restless night and insomnia?

Insomnia is a sleep disorder, where the sufferer regularly has problems falling asleep, or remaining asleep throughout the night. Symptoms of insomnia include finding it hard to fall asleep even though you’re feeling tired and unexplained waking during the night or early in the morning. This in turn makes it hard to function properly during the day.

You may wear the same pajamas year-round.
You may choose high quality of silk pajama set.

What you wear matters, even while you sleep. Your body temperature plays a part in your sleep cycle—a slight drop in temperature is what induces sleep.

Silk is ideal,  because it keeps you warm when you’re cold and cool when you’re hot. If silk is too pricey, try breathable cotton in the warmer months and cozy flannel during the cold.

You sleep in the wrong position.

If you try your hardest to sleep on your back because you heard it won’t give you wrinkles, you might end up with bags under your eyes instead.

Sleep posture affects sleep quality and people should stick to what they naturally gravitate toward

Certain conditions do call for a specific sleeping position that might not be natural but could still help you sleep better. And silk beddings may help you in this problem.

You’ve had the same beddings for years

It’s time for you to change you bedding set now.
The National Sleep Foundation recommends replacing your mattress about every eight years. If you’ve lost track of time, check for worn or sagging spots in the middle or at the edges; these signal it’s time for a change.

About momme weight

Silk bedding quality is referred to using momme weight.

Many people are familiar with thread count, which is used with many fabrics as a way to distinguish the overall quality of the fabric.

However, with silk, thread count is not generally used because it is not a good means to distinguish between different qualities of silk.

Silk is an incredibly fine thread to begin with, and thread counts would be extremely high, regardless of the quality of the silk. So for example, a low-quality silk may have a similarly high thread count to a high-quality silk. For this reason, silk uses an alternative system to measure quality, called momme weight.

What is momme?

In simplest terms, momme weight describes the weight of 100 yards of silk, 45 inches wide, in pounds. So, if a fabric is listed with a momme weight of 8mm, it means that 100 yards of the fabric weighs 8 pounds.  Many silk dresses and other silk clothing items will be around 8mm in weight. Higher quality silks tend to be 14, 15 or 16mm or higher. The best Silk bedding is 19mm or 19 pounds in weight per 100 yards.

range of momme weight

Silk generally falls into a range of 6 momme on the lower side to a maximum weight of 30 momme. For bedding, silk with a 19 momme weight is generally considered to provide the best balance of strength, aesthetics and affordability.

Importance of momme weight

If you are looking at various silk bedding options and you are unable to find a listed momme weight, you should look elsewhere. Without a declaration of momme weight, you have no way of knowing the quality of silk.

Effect of momme weight

While a higher momme weight silk will be more opaque than a lower momme weight silk, silk in general is a semi-transparent fabric. When deciding on color, remember that dyed silk will be more opaque as the dye will stop light from passing through the fabric, while white silk will be less opaque. However, many people enjoy white silk for its classic look and ability to match with many different types of bedding.
